Abi Clarke
In the past
i.e. in the early 2020s comedians would have been expected to be performing for
years in the UK before being invited on the TV panel and selling out arena
tours. It's not so easy at the moment. One art form that could still be
performed live is comedy, however there's no chance of arena tour. But one
comedian from Bristol is able to reach a huge global audience through social
media lockdown. Abi Clarke never set out to become a global internet star. Abi
Clarke is a young woman of 24 living in Henbury with her parents made her first
online video to "build a community of like-minded people who would be
interested in my stand-up comic act." "I was doing a lot of shows in
the depths of Devon to males older than 50 who weren't quite so hot on my Love
Island, Sims and Twilight references. I then went online with the intention of
finding other young women who were able to relate to me." Abi has since
been performing at Lakota Gardens after lockdown restrictions have eased, however,
she continues to upload her videos on Instagram, Twitter and Tik Tok (where she
recently surpassed 500k followers) Finding the inspiration she needs from
sources as diverse as her job at a café, a conversation with a stranger or even
the girls' group chat. She also writes all of her ideas down on her phone.
